Biotechnology is thefastest-growing and evolving interdisciplinary field. Built on the basics of Molecular biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology, Microbiology, and implementing technology; it tries to explore nature and natural resources, to address many facets of life; be it a medical field, agriculture, or any other industrial field, and even environment. Students passionate about biology and dream of a career in science can opt for this course. We at KMICS, impart the basics, provide necessary skills, and orient their thought process towards a successful career.
History of the Department
Justice, L. Narasimha Reddy, president of KMES, laid the foundation stone for teaching biological courses, at the undergraduate level in the year 2006 at KMICS. New departments, Biotechnology and Microbiology were initiated at KMICS with well-equipped laboratories, and a B.Sc. combination course of Biotechnology, Microbiology, and chemistry (Bt.Mb.C) was started under Osmania University Affiliation with an intake of 30 students per batch. Current intake per batch is 60 students. The course is offered in English medium since its inception. The Department is initiating M.Sc. Biotechnology from this academic year that is 2024-25
About the Department
The Biotechnology department has a spacious and well-equipped laboratory. It has 25 different types of equipment to support practical training as per the syllabus of Osmania University. The department always maintains a complete stock of chemicals, and all the lab ware required for practical classes.
