HISTORY

• Micro biology Department was established at Keshav Memorial Degree College in 2006.
• The President of Keshav Memorial Degree College vision for Life science courses at under graduate level and has taken the initiation to establish the department.
• The then Management members were Secretary Shri. Hari Hara Sharma Garu, Correspondent Shri. Bhava Narayana Garu and the Principal was Shri. Krishna Murthy Garu.
• The Department of Micro biology was established at the college premises obtaining the required permission from Osmania University.
• The first batch for Bt/Mb/C course was started in the same year of Department establishment with 25 numbers of students.
• The first lectureR recruited for Microbiology department was a M.Sc graduate Mr. Avinash who served the department from 2006-2007
• Second lecture Smt.Sreedevi, M.Sc graduate, join the department in 2007 and continued her services till 2009.
• Third lecture Smt. A.Padmaja, M.Sc graduate, join the department in 2008 continuing the services till date.
• Fourth lecture Dr.B.Kiran Kumar, Ph.D graduate, joined in 2016 and is continuing his services till date.
• Since the department has been functioning and flourished with a strength of (94) students with (3) big fully furnished class room and well equipped laboratories with around 22 equipments including full stock of chemicals and glass ware.
• At present 2 faculty members are working for the department. The Microbiology course serves in English medium from its establishment.

  The faculty are well experienced and qualified. The faculties have been updating the knowledge by attending various conferences, national seminars and workshops.
• Though the initial strength is 25 it has enhanced up to 100% during the academic years 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 due to heavy demand of the course.
• From 2016, CBCS has been introduced with semester system the entire admission procedure has been employed by on-line. Hence the question of increasing strength does not arise from the current year.

• The Department also provides students centric environment addressing each student understanding strengths and lacunae
• Creating Research atmosphere at U.G level and the students are encouraged to participate in the National and International

• We also strive to inculcate this hunger for knowledge on the cutting edge of Microbiology in our students
• To prepare students to excel in the field of Microbiology and prepare professionally competent individuals.
• To familiarize the students with basics to advanced concepts of Microbiology.
• To facilitate the latest information in the field of Microbiology to advance their career.
• The Department philosophy is to encompass diverse areas and topics that gives a broad research perspective.
• To develop students with necessary and appropriate laboratory skills and techniques.
• Designed the students to gain familiarity with the history ofmicrobiology through reading, reviewing and writing about notable papers in the field.
• Discusses current research and the use of advanced techniques to illustrate how microbiology is contributing to many cross-disciplinary problems that can involve engineering, public health, sociology, ecology, geology, etc. Course Syllabus
• It is a multidisciplinary unit consisting of Bacteriology, Immunology, Parasitology, Mycology, Anaerobic Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology and Virology sections.Teaching is an integral part of Departmental academic activity.
